Rocky High 2

A Specialty Camp – Rocky High Adventure Camp is for guys and girls who love being out of doors and thrive on adventure.

Back country camping and wilderness living are at their best in the high country surrounding what has been rated as Colorado’s only “Wild and Scenic River” Canyon.
In earlier times the French frontiersman named this area the “Cache de la Poudre” river because of its strategic location for storing gun powder.

Bordered by several majestic mountain ranges the area is home to an abundance of wildlife such as bear, cougar, elk, eagles and big horn sheep.
The scent of alpine forest, the tangy taste of wild strawberries, the roar of water tumbling down a boulder studded riverbed, the awesome vistas of purple mountain ranges, and the refreshing coolness of evening in the Rockies, are all sensations which will remain for a lifetime.

Rocky High 3

Adventure camp is not limited to super athletes but is open to guys and girls who want a challenge and are anxious to try something new.
Hiking at an elevation varying between eight and twelve thousand feet is strenuous, so some conditioning is encouraged.

Beginning at Camp Appanoose in southern Iowa, for an evening of orientation, participants will spend the first full day of camp enroute to base camp in the Rocky Mountains.
Wilderness schooling, conditioning and group building, will prepare each participant for the trip.  On the 2nd full day of camp, the group will begin the expedition phase of Rocky High.

Rocky High 4

All Rocky High participants will have opportunity to experience God’s creation in a way only few persons do.
Bible studies will allow for personal exploration of the scriptures along with group interaction and in the evening a campfire service.
Upon returning to Camp Appanoose, parents are invited to share in a time of celebration – pictures and memories of the trip and a welcome home meal provided by the camp food service.
